Deconstruction Services

HFHAA Restore Deconstruction Service is a free community service available to residents, businesses and contractors in the greater Alpena County area.

Reusable building materials will be removed from a remodeling project by our staff and volunteers. The donated items are then sold at ReStore, all proceeds support HFHAA.

Donated items are fully tax deductable.

What items can be removed?

Many types of building items can be removed from a remodel project and include:
Windows, Doors, Cabinets, Flooring, Lighting Fixtures, Plumbing Fixtures, Exterior Siding, Fences, Switches, Outlets, Showers, Tubs, Recyclable Goods and much more.

How long does a deconstruction project take?

Most deconstruction projects will be completed within a few days, larger deconstruction projects may take more time and can be scheduled to coincide with your remodeling project.

Why should I choose HFHAA for my remodel project?

To save you time, money, needless trips to the landfill and at the same time you are helping your community.

Not only is the deconstruction service free, you also get a tax deductable slip for your donated items. These items will be sold and all proceeds support Habitat for Humanity Alpena Area.

All deconstruction projects are overseen by the Construction Director, a licensed and experienced builder.

What steps are needed to apply for Deconstruction Service?

1. Contact HFHAA ReStore before you start your remodel project.

2. Establish what building items in your remoodel project that will not be reused in your in your new construction and may be donated to the HFHAA ReStore.

3. The staff of the HFHAA ReStore will schedule a time to view your remodel project and decide what items may be removed and reused through the Deconstruction Service.

4. The Construction Director will review the deconstruction project and assess the difficulty in removing the selected items intact and suitable for resale.

5. Establish a schedule for the Deconstruction Service. You may wish to contact your building contractor to help establish the time line.

6. The HFHAA ReStore staff and volunteers, with assistance of the Construction Director, will commence with the deconstruction project.

7. Sit back and enjoy the savings of time and money, and feel proud that you are helping the community.

Purchase: Alpena residents will find a large variety of home improvement items at very reasonable prices.

Donate: Homeowners, contractors and retailers; bring your home improvement items in, call us to arrange pickup or use our Deconstruction Service to donate your recyclable materials. Your fully tax deductable donation will help HFHAA and keep reusable resources from entering our local landfills.
